Today the world stands at a state of heightened alert against terrorism. This year, in the space of just 3 months, the UK suffered 3 terror attacks, 2 in London, and 1 suicide bombing in Manchester Arena, after an Ariana Grande concert. In June 2017, it was reported that there are ISIS sleeper cells in almost all provinces in Indonesia. In Singapore, 12 June, an infant care assistant was detained under the Internal Securities Act for planning to take part in the war for ISIS in Syria.
Amidst the growing global terrorist threats, the private security industry serves as the shadow industry that supports the Singapore Police Force in safekeeping Singapore’s safety from potential crimes and terrorism. However, the private security industry is well known for its low-skills, low-wages and low productivity. Implementation of technology is seen as one of the methods to improve security without increasing the need for manpower in our state of heightened terrorism alert.
Together with the collaboration of the key stakeholders, we are inviting security agencies, in-house security departments, building owners and managing agents to participate in the Smart Security Solutions Competition to embrace technological and productivity solutions in a state of heightened terrorism alert.
